Izhorsky Battalion - a Red Banner separate machine gun and artillery battalion of WW2. It was formed in Leningrad region from the workers of the Izhora Plant and residents of Kolpino at the end of August 1941. On September 4, 1941, the battalion took its first battle. The first commander was plant engineer V. S. Kudryavtsev, the chief of staff was G. V. Vodopyanov, and the commissar was G. L. Zimin. Initially named according to documents Izhorsky Battalion of workers, in July 1942 was re-formed into the 72nd Independent Machine Gun and Artillery Battalion of the 14th fortified area of the 55th Army. It participated in the Battle of Leningrad near the town of Kolpino, participated in all operations in the Kolpino section. It was believed that it served the best snipers of the entire Leningrad Front (the most effective - Nikolai Zalesky - recorded on his account 115 killed Nazis). After the Red Army reached the Baltic Sea, participated in the liberation of Pskov. It was disbanded in 1945.
