Black Five across the Weaver

Castle Class 7029 'Clun Castle' plays its part in the confusion at Chester as the announcer quite correctly said it was off to Dorridge. Unfortunately our charter was going to Norwich so quite a few hard-of-hearing seniors from our trip rushed to the wrong platforn !

Shining Cranesbill (Geranium lucidum)
22/04/2024: Boughton Heath allotment colony, Chester.
Quite similar to Herb Robert, but that species has larger flowers and much more dissected leaves. The Cranesbills are named from the long straight ‘beak’ at the end of the fruit capsules, clearly visible here.

21/04/2024: LED light trap: Boughton Heath allotment colony, Chester.
It feels like a terrible year, but looking back I find that in 2020 I waited till 3rd May for my first Least Black Arches, on that occasion the only moth caught.
"03/05/2020: 10W actinic trap: Boughton Heath allotment colony, Chester.
Another poor night, with only one moth in the trap, but an attractive one and my first of the species for this year."
