Morning Empties
69002 is seen just past Ely North junction at Queen Adelaide working the 4H98 0816 March Up Yard - Middleton Towers empty sand train 16/9/24. (Taken using a pole)

66603 approaches Black Horse Drove (between Littleport and Downham Market), working 6L85 03.23 Basford Hall Yard - Middleton Towers empty hoppers to be loaded with glassmaking sand for Encirc at Elton (near Ellesmere Port). [Pole, 5/6 sections (~6.8m)]
This working and the corresponding loaded train tend to run fairly reliably on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the empties use the same path east of March as GBRf's Mondays-, Wednesdays- and Fridays-only 4H98, although run about twenty-five minutes earlier on Saturdays; this was a Saturday morning, and after this I went for the DCR sand train (6M89 to Ravenhead, with hired-in GBRf 60096 again - see here) and then drove to Heckington in Lincolnshire for D345 (40145) going to Skegness on a railtour (see here).
I didn't upload this at the time for two reasons: first, the sun was playing with the edge of a cloud and the scene is not fully lit; second, although the sun is still technically "on the nose", being about five weeks after the summer solstice it has moved far enough round that the front of a 66 is not properly lit (due to the overhang), and I'd hoped to repeat the shot with a class 69 (which would have been marginally better) - but when I did, just over a week later, there was lots of thin cloud around and the image appeared very flat (and after that the sun had moved too far found, even for a 69).
