Avalon - Sydney - NSW
A colourful sunrise with some wave action at Avalon.

Avalon Beach, Sydney
The view this afternoon looking north across Avalon Beach.
Sydney's northern beaches.
Tuesday, 2nd March, 2021.
Photographed from along 'The Serpentine'.
Near the North Bilgola Lookout.
The Geotag says "Bilolga Beach' but this is 100% Avalon.
Photographed from the Bilgola Headland, hence the geotag wants to say 'Bilgola'.

Tuesday, 2nd March, 2021.
Sydney's northern beaches.
Photographed from the South Bilgola Headland Viewing Platform, next to the Hang-Gliding and Paragliding Take Off Grass Runway.
This is located a mere two hundred metres from where the previously posted photograph was taken (of Bilgola Beach) - but this is the view looking south over Newport.

Bilgola Beach, Sydney
The view of Bilgola Beach, late this afternoon.
Tuesday, 2nd March, 2021.
Photographed from the lookout at Eric Green Reserve.
The South Bilgola Headland.
"Bilgola' is an indigenous word meaning "swirling waters". I actually find the beach here quite calm (usually), and this was my beach of choice to take my two daughters to swim, and venture into the surf, when they were little. Only seven year's ago.
The honey-yellow colour of the sand on Bilgola Beach is the natural colour of the sand on Sydney's northern beaches, caused by the erosion of the sandstone cliffs and headlands. It is quite distinctive from the pure white sand of the south coast and north coast beaches of New South Wales. It is also much grittier than the silky white sand you find on the beaches to the south and to the north of Sydney.
I had travelled today to Sydney's northern beaches in oder to visit bookstores at Balgowlah, Warringah Mall and then Mona Vale. After a coffee and an apricot Danish at 'Patison's Cafe', Mona Vale, I drove to the headlands at Bilgola, Avalon and Newport Beaches. It was a grey and overcast afternoon but the beaches still had their charm.

East Coast Low Flow
With another east coast low impacting on the coast of Sydney, I went up to the northern beaches and shot Bilgola pool. Even with an outgoing tide there was still plenty of water flowing over the pool.
