Alloxylon pinnatum - Dorrigo Waratah
Copyright - All Rights Reserved - Black Diamond Images
Family : Proteaceae
Alloxylon pinnatum occurs from the McPherson Ranges of south-eastern Queensland south to Dorrigo in north-eastern New South Wales. It does best in warm temperate rainforest at moderate to high altitudes and can be difficult to establish in cultivation at lower altitudes unless grafted on to Alloxylon flammeum rootstock.
This tree growing here at low altitude at Upper Lansdowne on the NSW Mid North Coast is an ungrafted tree but it's done remarkably well given that annual rainfall here is not optimal for the species.
