“A quote from the article: "This is a single day in the life of a party that no longer attempts to appeal to grown-up voters, to stay within throwing distance of the truth or to produce a positive agenda on which to run for office.
There are several reasons, beyond just Republicans’ pathetic obedience to their reality-challenged leader, that we reached this moment of absurdity. This includes the right-wing cocoon that protects its MAGA favorites from scrutiny; the mainstream media’s pretense that the GOP is a serious and responsible party; and Democrats’ refusal to mock Republicans at every turn and call them out for undemocratic conduct (e.g., fomenting political violence, refusing to recognize election results).
The three-ring GOP circus, its enablers, its right-wing media propaganda machine and its bamboozled (or deeply cynical) voters raise a serious question about self-governance. If tens of millions of people willingly look at such crackpottery and say, “Yay, those guys!,” there is no democratic reform or voting rights legislation that will rescue us. Their excuses (they are disrespected, etc.) are similar to what a child would offer for rotten behavior. We infantilize our fellow Americans in assuming they don’t understand that this objectionable conduct is disqualifying for public office."”

Today’s 6th Mass Extinction:
“The study, published in the journal Science, created a huge dataset based on almost 40,000 farms in 119 countries and covering 40 food products that represent 90% of all that is eaten. It assessed the full impact of these foods, from farm to fork, on land use, climate change emissions, freshwater use and water pollution (eutrophication) and air pollution (acidification).
“A vegan diet (a diet free of meat, fish, eggs, dairy etc) is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, eutrophication, land use and water use,” said Joseph Poore, at the University of Oxford, UK, who led the research. “It is far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car,” he said, as these only cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The new research shows that without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% – an area equivalent to the US, China, European Union and Australia combined – and still feed the world. Loss of wild areas to agriculture is the leading cause of the current mass extinction of wildlife.”

“Impact of COVID-19 induced lockdown on land surface temperature, aerosol, and urban heat in Europe and North America”
3.1. Nighttime and daytime LST during the lockdown over Europe and North America
The spatial distribution of nighttime and daytime standardized LST anomaly (°C) across European countries during the lockdown period in 2020 (10th March– 10th May) with respect to 2015–2019 mean is shown in Fig. 1 (a, b). The standardized LST (nighttime) anomaly in 2020 against the reference data (2015– 2019) reveals that the anomaly ranged between –5 °C (in the eastern part of Europe, Ukraine) and +5°C (Western Europe, mostly in France, Ireland and in Alpine region). The negative anomaly was profound (–1 to –5 °C), especially over central and eastern parts of Europe, as well as over the Balkans, while moderate negative anomaly was found over the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean area (Fig. 1a). On the contrary, positive daytime LST anomalies were observed in the vast areas of central-western Europe and UK, while the negative LST anomalies were limited over the northern European countries (i.e. Scandinavia), as well as over the Baltic countries and the Iberian Peninsula (Fig. 1b). The LST anomalies over Europe are in general consistency with the respective anomaly of air temperature (Evangeliou et al., 2021), which revealed LST positive anomalies over France, UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and west part of Germany and mostly negative anomalies over the rest of Europe i.e. Russia, east Europe, Italy and Balkans)

“The Faustian aerosol bargain arises from the simultaneous production of greenhouse gas warming and aerosol cooling, both primarily a result of fossil fuel burning. In a 1990 article in nature, Andy Lacis and I described this, pointing out that aerosol cooling can continue to offset a large fraction of greenhouse warming only if particulate air pollution continues to increase rapidly. But at some point fossil fuels will run out, or people will get fed up with increasing air pollution and decide to clean up particulate pollution. Then, because greenhouse gases remain in the air for centuries and aerosols fall out within days after aerosol emission stops, the payment – via rapid increase of global warming – will come due.
“This Debate Never Happened!
A bill would require Virginia students to learn about “the first debate between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.””
“The right-wing fight to suppress the teaching of uncomfortable truths in public schools reached a comical new low this week in a Virginia bill that blatantly misstated a basic fact about U.S. history. The mix-up will surely be corrected before the bill comes up for debate. But the bill also includes deliberate attempts to censor teachers and reshape the facts of U.S. history to flatter white men, per the manufactured panic over the supposed teaching of "critical race theory."”

Kyle MacLachlan Biography
Who is Kyle MacLachlan ?
And Just Like That…” Kyle MacLachlan is a funway model.
The “*** and the City” actor, known for his portrayal of Trey MacDougal on the iconic HBO series, stormed the Prada runway in Milan, Italy over the weekend and totally nailed it.
MacLachlan, 62, looked like a total pro when he made his Italian fashion show debut, striking a sleek figure in a long black coat from the luxury designer's winter collection.
He completed the look with blue stain pants and matching gloves.
MacLachlan was joined by the likes of Jeff Goldblum, 69, “*** Education” actor Asa Butterfield, 24, and “Love Actually” star Thomas Brodie-Sangster, 31, who led an all-star lineup of male actors.
For his part, Goldblum cut a stylish figure in an all-black ensemble featuring a fur-trimmed coat, turtleneck and pants.
While the four famous men wore monochromatic ensembles, the other models donned bright colors, with some of their ‘fits featuring pink leather jackets and organ pants.
Designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons explained in their show notes that they were "thinking about meaningful fashion and pieces that make sense."
"Clothes that make people feel important and therefore important in themselves, not something to be thrown away," he continued.

"And this," Carl Ferris, the owner of Ferris Aircraft, said, "is Carol Ferris, your supervisor… and my daughter."
Hal looked at the woman with a smirk. She wore a pale pink button-up with the sleeves rolled up, along with black skirt. He reached out his hand. "Hal Jordan, looks like I'll be your colleague from now on," he said, winking at her.
"You'll be my subordinate from now on," she said, not accepting the hand shake. Hal pulled back, rubbing the back of his head. "Get ready, Jordan. I work to get things done."
Hal hopped out of the practice shuttle stumbling.
"All that talk, and you can't even last a minute?" Carol asked, stepping out from the control console. "The best of the best my ass."
"I make sure I last longer elsewhere," Hal said, smiling at her. "You'd probably appreciate it more there, anyways."
"Do you have any dignity? O-or respect?" she asked, her face slightly red.
"Listen, I haven't been given much respect by you either, boss." he replied, taking his helmet off and tossing it to the ground.
"Because respect is earned," she said, eyes narrowing. "Don't think you can just walk in here and act all big because your father worked here."
Hal's back straightened suddenly at the mention of his father, moving into Carol's space. "You're the last person to talk about family discounts, Princess," he snapped, staring down at the woman.
"You think I was just handed my position?" she said, offended, pushing Hal backwards.
"And what if I do?!" Hal snapped. "You are daddy's little girl, aren't you? Just ask to run the whole company while you're at it!"
"I worked tooth and nail to be where I am," she fired back, gritting her teeth. "You think my dad wanted me here? I was told to look pretty and find a husband, to cook and clean just like my mom did… this position is mine for a reason."
"I…" Hal spoke, but stopped, looking away. He moved from where he was standing to sit on the spectator bench for the tests. "I didn't mean to… that was wrong of me to insinuate."
Carol's expression softened slightly, sighing as she joined Hal on the bench. "I… I'm sorry too," she said, looking down. "I'm sure you're here on your own merits too…"
"Nope… here entirely because of him," Hal responded, leaning back. Carol looked at him confused, which caused Hal to chuckle. "My dad… he died in an airshow… what the public didn't know, he was testing a Ferris prototype."
Carol's eyes widened. "What? I've read up on the incident, there were only supposed to be cleared models."
"Yeah… I guess both our dads thought so too… y'know Bloch, the co-founder?" he prompted.
"He left the company after the incident, he talked about how it was too much for him."
"Yeah… he's the one who did it…" he said, earning a gasp from Carol. "He bought out my mom… I mean, a single mother with three kids? How could she turn down that kind of money?"
"I… I wanted to follow his footsteps though…" he said. "The money paid for… everything I needed to get here. He gave me everything, even in death."
"I… I'm so sorry."
"Nothing you need to be sorry about," he said, reaching out his hand. "How about we start over. My name's Hal Jordan."
Carol smiled, accepting the hand. "I'm Carol Ferris, I'll be your colleague here at Ferris Aircraft."
-^- Zamaron -^-
Hal landed just outside the Zamaron palace, the bubble containing Kyle landing a moment after.
"The air here is okay for you to breathe, though it may be a bit heavy at first," Hal informed, chuckling slightly as Kyle let out a held breath. "Now, it looks like the infection hasn't spread to Zamaron yet, but be on your guard, it could happen any moment.
Hal looked down at his ring, seeing it's battery was getting low. "Alright, let's go," he ordered, the two beginning their trek up the large set of stairs to the palace doors.
"You seem tense," Kyle said, trailing slightly behind Hal.
"Maybe a little."
"You sounded like this place brings up bad memories back in the alleyway."
Hal nodded, looking at the palace. "My biggest regret is inside…" he said, his first clenching. "This place just reminds me of how I failed."
"Oh… I'm sorry..." Kyle mumbled, rubbing his neck.
"It's fine," Hal says, waving off Kyle's concerns. "Let's just keep moving, we'll be inside shortly."
"Jordan!" Carol screamed, hopping out of the Ferris-issued Jeep, much to her driver's dismay.
Hal's jet had gone down. She didn't know what hit it, but it tore the wing off like a kit-kat. They had passed it about 3 miles back, leading them to the crashed jet. Carol immediately ran to the cockpit of the jet.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as she looked into the cockpit, it was empty, Hal was okay. That relief soon vanished as her eyes caught the seat still intact.
Hal didn't eject. That meant he crashed… but there was no blood anywhere, or trace of him.
As Carol's heart began to race, a voice called out from behind the rock.
"Finally, I called the taxi like, 20 minutes ago," he said, a chuckle following after. Carol turned to see Hal leaning against a rock, waving to her. "Miss me, boss?"
Hal took a deep breath before opening the palace doors, instantly spotting her standing in front of the queen's throne.
"I suggest we use our forces to summon The Predator, it's the only chance we have at saving the pala-"
The woman's words died in her throat as she turned, eyes widening.
"Carol…" Hal mumbled, before pushing Kyle out of the way and ducking. A large pink spear was now embedded in the palace door.
"Jordan…" she snarled, recovering from her spear throw.
"What the hell!?" Kyle shouted, getting up from the floor. "We aren't the zombie's, we're still alive!"
"Carol, please, listen… just for a moment," he pleaded. Hal slipped his ring off his finger, pocketing the metal and raising his hands. "I'm not here for a fight… we just need to talk."
"You think I'd trust you?" she shot back, almost laughing. "I don't think you have a brain in your head."
"We should hear Hal Jordan out," Queen Aga'Po, leader of the Star Sapphires, said. "These times call for unity, not warfare."
"My queen, you… you are mistaken," Carol said, turning back to the empress. "He… no matter the circumstance, should not be trusted."
"I understand your past grievances, Carol," she spoke, "but I don't believe you know the gravity of the Blackest Night."
A sudden crash caused the entirety of the temple to shake, cutting off Hal. His ring shot up from his pocket, sliding onto his finger and re-materializing the costume. "We're too late, we need the Predator, now!" he shouted, creating a platform under Kyle.
"A wise decision," the queen said, standing from her throne. "Come, to the central battery!"
Hal flew forward, dragging Kyle behind him. Carol reluctantly followed as well, trailing just behind Hal and Kyle. The group made their way out of the palace, exiting through the back.
"No…" Hal mumbled as he arrived outside the palace. Floating in the air were two figures. Abin Sur, his predecessor, draped in black robes. Next to him was X, the White Martian Superman and Batman had fought a decade ago. It's costume was pure black with a silver crest on its torso.
"Is… is that Superman… and Batman?" Kyle asked, the bubble fading.
"It's neither… just, stay be-"
"Nekron's Curse: Spectrum Split."
"Oh no!" Kyle shouted, watching X raise it's ring. A large wall was constructed in the middle of the courtyard. Hal's eyes widened, attempting to break through, but it was to no avail, Kyle was on the other side away from he, Carol, and Aga'Po.
"Kyle, no!" Hal shouted, slamming his fist into the wall. His ring glowed bright as he crashed against the construct, but it led to nothing, not even a crack.
Hal grit his teeth, head turning to look up at Abin Sur, who floated down to the ground in front of them. He watched X go to Kyle's side, causing him to punch the wall once more.
"Hal, we need to stop him first," Carol snapped, raising her ring. "If the boy is alive, we can help him after."
Hal's gaze returned to Abin. Raising his ring, he could feel it's low power. "I only have around five minutes of charge left…" he mumbled, forming a large cannon. "We need to make this quick, then save Kyle."
"You only have… ugh," Carol groaned, looking at the queen. "Return to the palace m'lady," she said, though it came out as an order. The queen obliged, turning and making her way to the palace.
"Just like old times then?" Hal said looking at Carol with a small smile. Carol didn't respond, causing Hal's smile to fall. "Alright, let's get this corpse out of here."
Kyle ducked under a blast of laser vision, the heat easily felt even without contact. After the wall went up, he immediately ran, knowing he wouldn't be able to fight back.
Kyle slid down the rocky mountain that the palace was located atop, using the various crystals to slow his fall, and to block the blasts of heat vision from his attacker.
"Y'know, I always said I wanted to meet Superman and Batman," Kyle shouted back to the monster, "but this isn't what I meant!" Finally making it to the bottom of the mountain, Kyle quickly found a path leading to some type of crystal maze, a garden.
Before he could enter the structure, a tentacle wrapped around his leg, pulling him to the ground with a thud. Turning back, his eyes widened. "You've got to be kidding me!" Kyle shouted, staring at X's outstretched arm.
Scooping up a stop sign-sized crystal, Kyle raised the gem and slammed it down against the tentacle, cutting it clean off.
Kyle crawled backwards, watching as X regrew the arm it had lost. Bringing himself to a stand, Kyle ran into the maze. Looking down at his wrist as he ran, he stared at the white scar. 'If you're gonna help me, now would be the time entity thing…'
With every corner he rounded, Kyle could feel dread drawing closer. Upon arriving at a fork, X was waiting, arms crossed in one of the paths. "Shit…" Kyle mumbled, turning down the path that wasn't blocked.
The path he found himself on was something of a sculpture display, various warriors and creatures cut from the crystals lining the path on either side. Looking back, X followed slowly, it's eyes like blackholes.
Kyle's hands grabbed hold of one of the statues, some kind of elf with a battle axe. "Sorry, Hermey," he mumbled, pulling the statue down to block off X.
Kyle praised himself inwardly, but his victory was shattered as X phased through the sculpture. "Of course you can do that," he mumbled, panting from the chase.
Kyle stumbled into what looked to be a greenhouse from the outside, but was more akin to a workshop from within. Looking around, he saw there was no back exit, leaving him trapped inside. He quickly surveyed any objects in the room, spotting some kind of blowtorch. He quickly pocketed the object, hearing footsteps behind him.
Kyle grimaced as the zombie took steps towards him, backing him further into the workshop. In the corner of his eye, Kyle spotted a large, spear-like crystal sitting under one of the tables. Kyle took a deep breath, mumbling thoughts of encouragement to himself. "Die, you Composite bastard!" Kyle shouted, grabbing the object and lunging forward. He jammed the crystal through the zombie's torso, embedding it between the Bat and S symbols.
Kyle's smirk fell as the zombie grabbed him by the throat, lifting him into the air. "Not your smartest idea, Kyle," he mumbled, struggling to breathe, remembering his encounter with the spider zombie. His hands shot to his throat, attempting to loosen the monster's grasp, but it proved unhelpful.Kyle began to fight back against the grip, trying to push away from the monster with his feet against it's torso. Pushing against the crystal, the sound of pressured air leaking caught his attention.
Behind the zombie, Kyle spotted what looked to be a large propane tank. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the blowtorch.
"Knock, Knock," Kyle said, closing his eyes as he lit the blowtorch and kicked the crystal further into the tank.
A barrage of black beans shot out towards Carol's pink shield, which blocked the attack. Hal stood behind the violet lantern, conserving his power as much as he could.
The explosion that sounded off shook the ground, causing Hal to fall over. "That sounded like it came from the Crystal Gardens!" Carol shouted, looking at the cloud of smoke rising into the air. "Did that boy blow up a fuel tank?"
Dread fell upon Hal's face, looking down the mountain. "Why is there a fuel tank in a garden?" he asked, trying to see any sign of Kyle through the smoke.
"How do you expect the crystals to be cut!?" Carol snapped back. "Now, ready a shot!"
"Right…" Hal said, trying to push Kyle to the back of his mind for now. Aiming a shot at Abin, Hal's ring sparked to life. "Open it!"
Carol obliged, allowing a microscopic hole to open in the center of her shield. Hal's beam fired through the opening, blasting Abin. The laser cut right through the zombie's hand, slicing it clean off.
Carol sighed quietly as Hal powered his ring down. "Alright, we need to-"
A surge of black energy shattered Carol's shield, sending them both Her and Hal flying backwards. Hal's back struck a crystal, while Carol hit the palace wall.
"Nekron's Curse: Dark Future."
Carol stood back up, eyes widening at the sight. Abin's body faded, revealing another with his arm intact. Almost as if the one they'd been fighting was an after image.
"Your arm was cut off… you should be dead!" she shouted up to him.
"The future changed," the man said, turning back to look at the central battery, now fully engulfed in darkness. "I have been called."
In an instant, Abin rocketed away, flying into deep space. With him gone, Carol's focus returned to the battery, watching as it was swallowed whole. Her eyes looked down to Hal, who was unconscious, before they returned to the battery.
Kyle's eyes cracked open, a bright light filling his vision. He was hot, extremely so, and his ears rang like a bell. Looking around, he saw flames that glowed an iridescent pink lining the walls and floor. He remembered now, the mission.
Bringing himself to a stand, he noticed his shirt was singed, his upper right torso exposed, but oddly not burnt. None of him was.
It was only then when the ringing in his ear stopped, replaced by a screech of agony. The zombie was on its knees, skin sizzling bubbling in the fire.
"That… that hurts, doesn't it?" he asked, panting. Looking to the ground, he picked up one of the crystals shattered from the explosion. It was hot enough to hurt Kyle's hand, but he didn't care. Limping toward the monster, Kyle raised the dagger-like crystal into the air.
Hal's eyes opened slowly. His head hurt, and his body felt like Gorilla Grodd had sat on him. Sitting himself up, he noticed the barrier between Kyle and himself was beginning to fade, meaning Kyle had killed the zombie.
It wasn't a moment letter when his eyes caught Carol, fighting back against the darkness as it consumed the central battery. As if the pain never existed, he shot up from the ground. Hal tried to fly, but his ring was too low on battery. He found himself sprinting towards the ball of pink energy, slowly being encompassed in blackness.
He couldn't see anything. He couldn't hear or smell anything… but he felt something. He felt her. So he reached out, finding the light source.
Carol was currently using all of her power to blast away the darkness. It was a losing battle, however, as the power of Nekron was simply too strong.
Hal ran to her, Carol taking notice. "What are you doing?" she shouted, not diverting her focus. "Are you trying to die?"
Hal shook his head, stepping into the ball. "No, you need help Carol," he said, covering his eyes from the blinding light. "You can't beat that alone."
"Just run Hal," she pleaded, sweat running down her forehead. "You need to go or you will die."
Hal moved closer, sliding his hand into hers. She looked at him confused as he began to blast green energy into the blackness. With both of their ring hands intertwined, their green and pink energy began to spiral.
"Hal, you don't need to die for me!" she cried, the darkness still overtaking them. "Let go!"
"Carol, please!" Hal begged, his ring aimed at the pink-clad woman. "We don't have to fight… you're still you…"
"The woman you loved died the day you left her to," Carol seethed, her own ring aimed at Hal. "You broke my heart… so now I'll break yours."
"Let go of us, Jordan. It's gone, the past is dead."
"No! I won't let go!" he shouted back, his white eyes glowing an emerald green, his ring's power output maximizing. "I'll never let go… not again…"
With the boost of power, the spiral overtook the black energy, destroying the darkness that was consuming the battery. As the center of the battery cleared, the Predator burst out as a physical manifestation, blasting away the darkness that consumed the planet.
As the spiral stopped, Hal's suit faded, returning him to his aviator jacket and cargo pants. His ring was out of juice completely… sliding off his finger and losing its green color.
Hal sighed, looking at Carol, whose ring also died, but kept it's color and place on her finger. "Guess mines out for good," Hal said with a chuckle."
"Hey, don't…" Hal said, stopping Carol. "How about… how about we start over?" Hal suggested, expecting the worst.
Carol was silent for a moment, leading Hal to believe it was the wrong call. That is, until her gloved hand extended outwards. "My name is Carol Ferris."
Hal smiled, reaching out his own hand. "For hearts long lost and full of fright," Hal said, pausing, confused by his words.
Carol shared a similar look of confusion, eyes widening as she looked back to the battery.
Hal Jordan, you have exhibited a Love strong enough to be detected by the Predator.
"For those alone in Blackest Night. Accept our ring and join our fight," Hal said, his eyes glowing a bright pink. His jacket was replaced by a white robe, a hood falling over his head.
"Love conquers all with violet light!"
