Tramwood 2024-2. Kewaunee Car Show
Last year, we skipped the Kewaunee Car Show, but this year…we made a return to downtown Kewaunee for the 2024 edition of the car show. Mom made note that there was a car show in Kewaunee….but except that’s NOT in downtown Kewaunee…but it’s at the popular restaurant, the Waterfront Bar and Grill. There are many car shows in Kewaunee, but they are actually different, they could be either be in a parking lot of a restaurant or anywhere else. Here’s some choice vehicles I have seen at the Kewaunee Car Show this year plus a bonus car show that came a day before the Kewaunee Car Show.
1. LOAD ‘ER UP: This red MG Roadster greeted us at this year’s edition of the Kewaunee Car Show…while the other cars had their hoods opened, this car had the trunk opened.
2. AND STEP INSIDE: I couldn’t help myself and feature a picture of the interior of the MG Roadster….a very nice interior paired up with driving gloves. This year marks the 100th anniversary of MG and to celebrate, the car brand launched the highly anticipated electric roadster called the Cyberster. Currently the vehicle is sold in China, Europe and the UK…but however the vehicle has yet to make a leap across the Atlantic and even sell in other Asian markets like Japan, South Korea and Australia/New Zealand.
3. PICKUP TRUCK EQUIVALENT OF THE MR. OLYMPIA: Pickup trucks are still the popular selling vehicle in the United States. But other markets around the world have pickup trucks like Brazil, the Middle East and Australia. Here we have the display of pickup truck muscle on display. Of course one 1990s era Ford F150 really hulked out to the max to the point that the truck owner has a step stool to display the truck engine.
4. IT’S SUMMER: It’s a tradition that the Kewaunee Car Show is also a SNOWMOBILE SHOW and there was a lineup of very unique vintage snowmobiles including one unique Bombardier Elite snowmobile which featured a seating layout that is less like a snowmobile and more like a car or even today’s UTVs!
5. THE MUSCLES OF THE RAM: Well I had to throw in more bodybuilding references in this photograph, we have a modified engine bay of a Dodge Ram that almost looks like an equivalent of thick looking veins of a Mr. Olympia competitor.
6. 442 WITH TWO MORE DOORS: Oldsmobile never offered a four-door version of their iconic 442 muscle car, but this Delta 88 sedan looked a bit a part with those wheels that came from the 442. The vehicle got a little raised up appearance too looking like a true sports sedan.
7. WHY WE DON’T GET THE LEV…I MEAN WRX WAGON: Subaru fans always claim that the WRX was always a hatchback and not a sedan but of course the WRX was offered a sedan and hatchback. Here’s a WRX on display…yes it has all the performance car modifications. Of course just south of the border, Subuaru just introduced a wagon version of the WRX which for a while in Japan and other parts of the world, it was known as the Levorg. Unfortunately the WRX wagon isn’t coming to the US which is a shame…but if it did, it would adopt a muscular rally car look from the WRX sedan which wouldn’t look out of place and would blend in quite well with the Crosstrek and Outback.
8. BIG MUSCLES UNDERNEATH A VERY NICE DRESS SHIRT: Who said muscle cars aren’t civilized…here I spotted a green Pontiac Firebird that could be well mistaken for a Buick, Oldsmobile or even a Cadillac thanks in part of comfortable white leather seats and a wood trim. This Firebird convertible was more for driving down the backroads on a nice summer or mid fall day than to tear up the tarmac at a racetrack.
9. YES…THAT’S A VOLVO: The Volvo P1800 was sold from 1961 to 1972 and was offered as a shooting brake wagon called the P1800ES from 1972 to 1973. The vehicle itself is an icon in so many ways…it was featured in the 1962-69 British TV series “The Saint” staring one of the actors of many James Bond films, Roger Moore. Then there was a highest milage 1800s coupe that was owned by Irv Gordon who drove the vehicle over 3.25 miles until his death in 2018. The P1800 was an influence of many Volvo coupes including the 262c, 780, C70 and the Polestar 1 while the P1800ES influenced the hatch design of the 480 and C30 hatchbacks.
10. A PERFECT BACKDROP FOR ANY CAR IN KEWAUNEE: Now this is not a car…but rather a gas station. It looks like the one Mobil gas station in downtown Kewaunee closed up shop but however it is becoming a tourist trap as the modern gas pumps were replaced by old pumps. It’s reported that the Mobil station in Kewaunee is the location of Parks Oil Company. Here the gas station is a great display locale for two vehicles that appeared at this year’s car show….a hot rod and a Corvette C6 coupe.
